Sports and Orthopedic Physiotherapy

What to expect at West Vancouver Sports and Orthopedic Physiotherapy

You will be greeted by friendly and caring staff who will request necessary information from you for our files. They will then show you into the clinic for your assessment.

The physiotherapist will introduce him or herself and will take a history by asking you questions regarding the nature of your injury, your symptoms, any medications you are taking, your general health, and results of special tests such as x-rays or CAT scan. You will also be asked questions regarding your daily activities such as sports, gardening, exercise involvement or occupation as they relate to your injury.

Your physiotherapist will then perform an objective examination which includes assessing biomechanics, mobility, strength, balance, and neurological testing (i.e. reflexes) if necessary. This exam will allow the physiotherapist to make a diagnosis, explain your treatment plan and expected recovery time. Your treatment will include manual therapy, exercise, modalities such as ultrasound, interferential and muscle stimulators. These modalities will decrease pain and swelling and will promote optimal healing. You will most likely be given a home exercise program, advised on use of ice or heat, and advised on activities to avoid during your rehabilitation.
You are an active participant in your treatment and your physiotherapist will work with you to facilitate the most optimal recovery.
